Spruce Village

Updated: May 10, 2019

A HOME 2018 Grant for Spruce Village was approved at the April 25 board meeting. The $800,000 loan will fund the construction of a 44 unit, fully HOME-assisted, fully accessible development targeted to individuals and families with developmental and physical disabilities in Palatine.

In April, my staff met with the North/Northwest Suburban Task Force on Supportive House for Individuals with Mental Illness and they will be managing the project. Additionally, the non-profit organization Housing Opportunity Development Corporation (HODC) will develop, manage and preserve this property, in addition to providing social service administration for the development and its residents. With a mix of studio and one bedroom apartments, Spruce Village will be able to provide applicants with a variety of housing options.

It is estimated that over 12,000 adults ages 20 to 64 in North/Northwest Cook County are living with a disability. Unfortunately, the demand for these apartments will far exceed the availability, but this is a step in the right direction in providing affordable housing for all.
