Safe New Crossing to Deer Grove Trails

At the November meeting of the Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners, an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the Forest Preserves and the Village of Palatine was passed to create a new paved trail to the beloved Deer Grove Preserves. This project increases safety and connectivity for users of the Deer Grove Trails.

This IGA grants Palatine the ability to construct and maintain a paved trail connection to the Deer Grove Trails from the intersection of Dundee Road and Smith Street just south of Deer Grove - East.

Palatine will be responsible for the design, construction, and future maintenance costs associated with the new trail connection that will be 540 linear feet in length. Three trees are proposed to be removed during construction at a cost to Palatine of $5,305.29. The Forest Preserves is pleased to be able to waive the license fee, license application fee, and the YELAR fee.
