Cook County Sheriff's Office Helicopter Metrics

In 2024, the Cook County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the purchase of a helicopter for use by the Cook County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) to improve incident response and situational awareness, emergency response, and search and rescue operations.

Between August 25, 2025, and October 27, 2025, CCSO’s helicopter has recorded a total of 52 flights. During a single flight, a helicopter operator typically responds to or observes and reports multiple events/incidents, each of which is recorded separately.

During these flights, helicopter staff recorded a total of 411 events. Recorded incidents include:

• 187 premise checks

• 74 patrol operations

• 47 traffic violation missions

• 37 stolen vehicle/carjackings

• 25 wanted person/suspect searches

• 22 responses to requests for backup

• 9 missing person searches

• 4 suicidal subjects

• 3 investigative follow ups

• 1 fire
